Tis the season to fill your home with festiveness and create a cosy Christmassy set-up to celebrate the holidays!

With pictures filling our newsfeeds earlier and earlier each year, each one presenting new ideas and ways to decorate our homes, we’ve pulled together five of our favourite festive decorating tips. Whether you’re searching for an understated approach to sprucing up your home for Christmas, or you’re after some top tips on what else you can do to fill your home with cheer, our round-up will help you style your home this Christmas at Catalyst.

 1. Have yourself a Catalyst-inspired Christmas

The Christmas tree has long been the focal point of decorating in December, with sparkly baubles, lights, and tinsel always a sure way to set the scene. Branching out from the tree, this year the emphasis is on filling the entirety of your space, from the open-plan living space to the hall in your home. Our research has educated us on the world of mantelscaping – a huge trend that translates as “artfully arranged decorations above the fireplace” and incredible floral door displays complete with wreaths and welcome mats – the possibilities are endless when styling your whole home.

 2. Spice up your space

The finishing touches when decorating any space are important, and when welcoming guests to your home over the Christmas period, having a seasonal-scented candle instantly floods the room with festivity. Whether it’s a pine-scented candle, a burnt orange or cinnamon inspired smell, there are plenty of options to choose from to suit your own personal taste.

 3. Get cosy for Christmas

Decorating for Christmas all really boils down to creating a warm and comfortable ambience at home. We crave a space that allows us to relax and enjoy ourselves. Once the tree is up, and your home is filled with seasonal smells, why not switch over your year-round throw cushions and blankets for some seasonal festive ones instead and create the perfect spot for cosying up on the sofa to watch a festive flick.

 4. Tap into tradition

This year, the traditional Christmas colours are back! The last few years have seen a move away from the traditional red, gold and greens and welcomed a variety of colour palettes, including pastel pinks, sparkly silvers and ashy blues, but this year, stylists are reintroducing the traditional. When styling your space for Christmas, going back to basics and building upon the tried and tested festive hues will create a trendy interior set-up.

 5. Festive foliage

Foliage has become a leading interior trend for every season over the last few years, with Christmas being no exception. Incorporating seasonal greenery whether faux or fresh is another great way to add the latest styling to your Christmas decoration. Favourites include eucalyptus, box, ivy, yew and fir, topped off with some holly and berries to add a splash of colour. The foliage can take different forms, such as running across the mantelpiece, over the doorway or along the cupboards – you can get creative with where you choose to incorporate this trend.
